National Association of Estate Planners and Councils (NAEPC)

The National Association of Estate Planners and Councils was founded in 1962 and became a corporation in 1963. The association’s primary principle is that estate planning should be done as a team to best serve the customer. This one value is incorporated throughout every programme, perk, and service.

In 2018, the NAEPC has over 270 member estate planning councils and serves about 30,000 individual members. Furthermore, the group has nearly 2,000 active Accredited Estate Planner® designees around the country, with representation in nearly every state.

Our experts are often in the fields of accounting, insurance, legal, trust services, philanthropy, or financial planning, with an emphasis on estate planning. According to their regulations, other experts are admitted to estate planning councils.

The NAEPC’s mission is to promote specialisation programmes that will raise the recognition and acceptance of estate planning as a profession. The NAEPC offers two distinct specialisation programmes:

Accredited Estate Planner® (AEP): AEP is available to individuals in the disciplines of accounting, insurance, law, philanthropic, trust services, and insurance & financial planning who have met the requisite requirements, including estate planning experience and recommendations by colleagues, and may require completion of certain graduate estate planning courses.

All individuals obtaining the AEP® designation must demonstrate a continued commitment to the team approach to estate planning and adhere to a strict code of ethics.

Estate Planning Law Specialist (EPLS): The Estate Planning Law Specialist (EPLS) designation is available to estate planning attorneys. Attorneys who achieve Board certification through this programme show a high level of professionalism and dedication to the concept of specialisation.

The Estate Law Specialist Board, Inc., an attorney-run subsidiary of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils, administers this programme.
